A man with a bionic leg got an incredible tattoo of the prosthetic of his other leg and hopes it will help others to embrace their differences.
Film-maker Jamie ‘Jay’ Car said he used to be self-conscious about having a bionic leg but now he is proud of his body and wants others to feel the same.
Mr Car (26) told Independent.ie: “I was born with a defect, a lot of people think I’m an amputee but basically I was born with one leg. “When I was born doctors said I would never walk but my mother disagreed and did everything she could and I was walking by the age of two with a prosthetic right leg.
“When I was born doctors said I would never walk but my mother disagreed and did everything she could and I was walking by the age of two with a prosthetic right leg.
“I don’t know what it would be like to have two legs so it hasn’t affected me in any way, other than the fact that people will ask me what happened to it.” Jamie, who is from Finglas in Dublin, said that although the inking was really painful he’s over the moon with the outcome.
He said: “I got the tattoo because I’m really proud of who I am, it sounds really cliché and cheesy but I wouldn’t change it, it made me who I am. “It took three sessions, about ten to twelve hours, it was really painful, I have other tattoos but none of them were as sore, I think it’s because I have a lot of muscle on my left leg from carrying me around, it was an absolute killer.
“I love the final outcome and I’m really proud of it, it’s really unique to me.” The film-maker shared a video of the tattooing session on his Facebook page The Buzz With Jamie Jay Car and said the reaction has been really positive.
He said: “Hopefully someone else who wears a prosthetic will see it and it’ll make them smile and make their day. “I was very insecure when I was younger about my leg and I wouldn’t wear shorts or anything and it was only when I reached my 20s that I became comfortable with it.
“If anything, I’d just like if helped anyone in a similar position to feel secure.” Have a look at his stunning video:
